Building partnerships
With Small Island
Developing States

A funding initiative by the Government of Ireland
Irish Aid
Marine Institute

Our Shared Ocean

Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are a distinct group of nations that face unique social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities and are home to around 50 million people.

Ireland recognises our fellow islanders are on the front line of the impact of climate change and vulnerable to sea-level rise and extreme weather events.

Our Shared Ocean will support research, knowledge exchange and capacity building in partnership with Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The programme is funded through Irish Aid, Irelands’ programme for overseas development, and is managed by the Marine Institute.
